Rolling looks intimidating until you've done it three times. Then it's muscle memory. Here's the technique.
What you need
- 0.5β1g of properly cured flower like CHERRY 7UPπ or STRAWBERRY MAC π
- Rolling papers (1ΒΌ size for solo, king-size for sharing)
- A filter tip (also called a crutch)
- A grinder
- A flat surface
Step by step
1. Grind
Medium-fine grind. Too fine = harsh, hard to draw. Too coarse = uneven burn. A 4-piece grinder gives the best texture and saves the kief in the bottom chamber.
2. Make the filter
Take a strip of card and fold it accordion-style three or four times, then roll the rest around it. The filter keeps your fingers clean, stops scooby snacks, and gives the joint structure.
3. Load the paper
Hold the paper gum-side up and away from you. Place the filter at one end. Spread ~0.5g of flower from filter to tip, slightly tapering toward the tip (a cone burns better than a cylinder).
4. Shape
Pinch the paper between thumbs and index fingers. Roll back and forth gently to pack the flower into a log shape. This is the step everyone underdoes β spend 20 seconds here.
5. Tuck and roll
Tuck the unglued edge over the flower, then roll up to the gum strip. Lick the strip lightly and seal.
6. Pack the tip
Use a pen, chopstick, or the back of a lighter to gently tamp the loose end. Twist the very tip to keep it in.
Common mistakes
- Too dry β flower won't pack; rehydrate with a Boveda for a day
- Too wet β won't burn evenly; let it dry uncovered for an hour
- Overpacked β won't draw; you'll suck like a vacuum and get nothing
- Underpacked β burns fast and uneven, "canoes" down one side
Premium flower like CANDY X makes rolling easier β properly cured bud is sticky enough to hold its shape without forcing it.
