You spent good money on flower like Dark Matter or LCG 90H. Don't let bad storage waste it. Cannabis degrades from four enemies: light, air, heat, and moisture extremes. Get those right and your flower will smoke as well in three months as it did the day you opened it.
The five rules
1. Glass, not plastic
Plastic generates static that pulls trichomes (the resinous crystals) off the bud. Use a glass jar with an airtight lid — Mason jars are perfect.
2. Dark place
UV light degrades cannabinoids. Keep jars in a cupboard or a dark drawer. If you must use clear glass, store it inside a box.
3. Cool, stable temperature
Aim for 60–70°F (15–21°C). Avoid temperature swings — don't store near the stove, oven, or a sunny window. Don't refrigerate (humidity cycling damages it).
4. Humidity 58–62%
Too dry → harsh, brittle flower that loses terpenes. Too wet → mold risk. Drop a 2-way humidity pack (Boveda 62 or Integra Boost) into each jar.
5. Don't grind until you smoke
Ground flower exposes massively more surface area to air. Grind right before you light up — flower like Gumbo 88G keeps its aroma noticeably longer this way.
Common mistakes
- Storing in the original mylar bag long-term — okay short-term, not great past a few weeks
- Stuffing too much into a jar — leave a little air gap so the humidity pack can do its job
- Opening the jar repeatedly to "check" — every open is a moisture exchange
Treat flower like a fine spirit: cool, dark, sealed, undisturbed.
